Our carpet is a very effective filter, the biggest one in your home. It acts just like the filter that you replace in your heating and air conditioning system. It filters out the airborne soils and particles that pass through it. Without that filter, those soils and particles just sit on the floor, swirling around to cause health worries. During the colder weather months when the windows remain closed, that filtration becomes a bigger issue. Your carpet actually traps and filters those soils and prevents them from becoming airborne.  Then, they can be removed with regular vacuuming and regular professional cleaning.

Carpeting absorbs and traps tracked-in soils, pollen, insecticides, bacterial matter and even fungus.  As evidence, the black lines that appear on light colored carpet around baseboards, under doors and around cool air returns shows the effect of this "filtration soiling”…. essentially dirt that did not get vacuumed up.
