Did Your Dog Eat Your Carpet? A Patch Insert Can Fix It

Did your dog eat your carpet… again? Maybe you have a puppy in training, or your cat decided to scratch the carpet by the door. Either way, a small damaged area can be a big problem, especially if you live in a rental or you rent a home as a landlord.

Before replacing the carpet in the entire room, there may be a much simpler solution, such as a Carpet Patch insert.

A carpet patch insert is made for these scenarios and both family and realtors use these repairs all the time to repair without replacing all of the carpet.

How to Fix Dog Chewed Carpet?

If the damage is limited to one area, such as carpet chewed by a dog or scratched near a doorway, we can often cut out the damaged section and replace it with a matching piece of carpet.

Patching may not make sense when there are multiple damaged areas, severe urine damage, several permanent stains, or heavily worn carpet. If the surrounding carpet has too much wear, the patch may also be too noticeable.

For many homeowners with pets and multi-family properties with pet-friendly units, replacing the entire carpet after every incident isn't always practical. A patch insert can repair the affected area and help extend the life of the existing carpet.

Do You Need Extra Carpet for a Patch?

Not necessarily. Having extra matching carpet is ideal, but if you don't have any, we can often take a piece from a hidden area of your home, such as the corner of a closet. We then replace the closet piece with our own nonmatching carpet.

We do need matching carpet from your home for the repair, as we do not carry matching carpet remnants.

What Can a Carpet Patch Repair?

Carpet patch inserts can be used for many types of localized carpet damage, including:

  • Dog-chewed or torn carpet

  • Cat-scratched carpet

  • Bleach spots

  • Permanent stains

  • Burns

  • Small holes or tears

Carpet Patch Insert Process

When a patch insert is appropriate, the process typically includes:

  1. Inspect & Cut – We inspect the damage and carefully remove the affected section.

  2. Find Matching Carpet – We use your extra matching carpet or select an inconspicuous area of the home where matching carpet can be taken.

  3. Prepare the Patch – Carpet from a closet may have less wear, so we work with the fibers to help it blend with the surrounding carpet.

  4. Secure & Align – The patch is carefully positioned and secured with professional seam tape and heat.

Because carpet can vary in wear, a patch may still be slightly visible. Our goal is to make the repair blend as naturally as possible. We’ve been performing carpet repairs for years, working with multi-family properties and realtors who rely on us to help prepare homes for their next residents.

Can You Patch Carpet Yourself?

A poor cut can make the damaged area larger or leave you with a patch that's even more noticeable. If you don't have experience with carpet repairs, having the patch professionally installed can help you avoid causing additional damage.
